Case 1 – Kitchen Sink Gully Clog
Susan*, a housewife enjoys cooking and the kitchen is where you can always find her, baking or cooking away. One afternoon, while washing the dishes, she noticed that the water in the sink was not draining. The kitchen sink gully was clogged and the dirty water overflowed the sink, resulting in a foul smell in the kitchen. The build-up of the water caused a mini flood in the kitchen sink area and it was quite a sight.
Fortunately, Susan remembered that she bought a HomeBliss policy and called for home assistance services immediately. Very shortly, the plumber arrived and cleared her kitchen sink gully clog, as well as repaired the faulty water pipes. All these were resolved within a few hours and she was back to preparing dinner that very evening. Susan's HomeBliss policy covered the $100 expenses incurred for the plumbing services and clearing of sink gully clog.
Case 2 – Damaged circuit caused by lightning
Peter* was sound asleep when a loud thunderbolt and lightning woke him up in the middle of the night. It sounded like strong wind blowing against trees and other things outside his home. Hoping that the weather will tamed down the next morning so that he can enjoy his weekend, he fell asleep again and woke up only in the morning. This was when he realized that there was no power in the house. The lights, fans and all electrical appliances could not function. Upon checking the main power switch board, he discovered that the circuit breaker was damaged. Remembering the thunder storm last night, he suspected that the damage might be linked to that as there were no other visible or known factors that might lead to the damage.
Peter called the Home Assistance Hotline which arranged for electrical assistance. Help arrived shortly, the circuit breaker was replaced, and soon the television and other electrical appliances were back to functioning mode. The HomeBliss policy Peter bought earlier covered the cost of the circuit breaker which came up to $100.
Case 3 - Fire in Maid's Room
It was a peaceful Sunday for Mr Ang*. He was napping when his maid rushed into his room to say that there was a fire in her room. Fire was the last thing he expected to happen in his home. He rushed out of his room to the utility area where the maid's room was located. It was too late. Fire was lapping away the room and there was nothing he could do. In a blur, he managed to get his family and the maid out of the house. A neighbour had already called for the firemen as he can hear the sirens approaching.
The fire was put out shortly and the maid's room was totally gutted out by the fire. On top of these, the furnishings and renovations, the building facade and the neighbouring units were also affected by the soot caused by the fire.
Upon investigation, the fire was caused by an electrical short-circuit in the maid's room. Luckily for Mr Ang, the HomeBliss policy he bought covered the damages caused by the fire. The damage came up to about $25,000 which was definitely a hefty sum for him. The HomeBliss policy certainly helped in the payment of reconstruction and renovation costs, compensation for his maid's personal belongings destroyed by the fire as well as personal liability claim for smoke damage to his neighbour's unit.
